Overcoming so much
Ruth Brown is Amazing not only as a Artist but also as a Human Being in a time that not long ago that Hated her for HerColor&She fought for a better Tommorow for Future Generations of Artists coming. She overcame so much &Gave Back so Much not only as a Artist but also as a Person.Important Artists like Her should always be Remembered for Paving the way for so many. She is a Great Vocalist that could ring Circles around Many out today. Her Book&Etta James's are Must.Sister's that overcame so much but Maintain there Inner&Outer Soul.

"This is a really fascinating book, about an incredible woma
This is a terrific book that tells the story of a truly amazing woman and in the process, tells the story of hundreds of rhythym and blues performers and groups and the lives they led, in the early days of this important american music. The reader learns how Ms. Brown overcame unbelievable obstacles, both personal and business, and came out on top-in the process, initiating the creation of a great organization called The Rhythm and Blues Foundation, which is based in Washington DC, and exists for the purpose of helping to preserve the music and which provides cash awards and support for R&B pioneers.

A true R&B Legend
Ruth Brown has seen it all--from staying in sleazy segregated hotels on tour in Jim Crow America in the 40s and 50s to the top of the R&B charts in the 50s to later hearing her songs on the radio when she was broke and ignored by the record companies she helped build. This lady was the "diva" of R&B and still performs today to packed audiences. We're lucky to have this historical record of her life, for it is a reflection of what many black performers of her day had to go through before achieving the heights of musical stardom, and what they had to go through even after achieving the heights. A great lady and a great performer!

My Alphabet

Trevor Brown My Alphabet and more
Trevor Brown's My Alphabet is a beautifully designed book showcasing the artist's beautiful images of young, lolita-type japanese girls in disturbing images of bondage and torture. The cover is a beautiful black ultrasuede with pink lettering, the cover illustration is inlaid on the fabric, and the cover is protected with a clear plastic dustjacket. The print run was extremely limited and this sold out quickly after its release in Japan. Very few copies made it into the U.S. and My Alphabet has become a sought-after cult classic. Highly recommended if you can still find one.

Exploring the different aspects of sexuality and practices..
I really enjoyed this book because it covers taboos that people don't talk about, let alone think about it most of the time. Trevor Brown's artwork is fantastic. I suggest those who are "curious" about everything read this.

Excellent! Great addition to Forbidden Fruit
Beautiful..I Now own 2 of his books and I love them both..The previous review says it all for me..However, I must say that if you don't know who Trevor Brown is and you come across this book or any others of his, you're in for a suprise. If only I had access to some of his original paintings.

Poodle Owners Medical Manual
Published in Paperback by Breed Manual Pubns (November, 1988)
Author: Robert Brown
Average review score:

Excellent reference book on poodle health
This is an excellent medical reference book for poodle owners, but it is rather technical and clinical. Information is arranged alphabetically by topic, so it can sometimes be difficult to find what you are looking for if you don't already know the exact, sometimes medical, term. This is by no means a how-to guide for raising and caring for poodles, nor does it purport itself to be such a book. If your veterinarian mentions a specific condition or you hear about something afflicting another breed and wonder if it is something that can affect poodles (e.g., tracheal collapse), there is no better resource than this book. It also does a very good job of contrasting conditions and their effects on poodles of various sizes. When you know the condition, it is easy to learn about the symptoms; if you are observing symptoms in your poodle, though, it is not altogether easy to find what conditions the symptoms might point to.

Thus, as wonderful as this book is, it is not a practical guide for keeping your poodles healthy. For this reason, I do not believe this is a book that all poodles' humans should rush out and buy. A pet first aid book is much more practical and potentially life-saving, and the clinical presentation of the information in this medical manual will probably put off a good many people. Breeders will find this book much more useful than typical poodle owners will.

Poodle Breeder
The best book on Poodles I have found. Great book for new owners and those that love poodles. A must for anyone considering breeding. Informatiom is easy to read and understand. Contains all medical info in one book.

Poodle Owners Medical Manual
I was very impressed with the depth and extensive subject matter of this medical manual. Presented in an easily readable format, it addresses everything from toxic household items to serious medical conditions. It was a wealth of information for me as a novice poodle owner and I feel would also be an excellent reference for the more experienced owner as well. I do wish that it was available in hard copy as my standard puppy found the cover to be quite tasty and I am therefore ordering another copy (which will be secured on a high shelf).

The Portal and the Key

Imaginative childrens story
The Portal & the key is a very well written book that keeps the interest of a younger child you are reading to - or an older child reading alone. I highly recommend this mysterious book.

Portal and the Key
The Portal and the Key- brilliant! Ann M. Brown takes you back in time with Mark and Jake on a mission to save Delia. It's a breath-taking discovery and it has bone chilling action! A book that I for one, couldn't put down. When I was reading the book I imagined myself as one of the characters. That's how good it is. So I'll say it once and I'll say it again, "READ IT!" I especially recommend this book to anyone who likes time travel or action.

Portal and the Key
The Portal and the Key by Ann M. Brown was a super book. Ann Brown brings you to Mark and Jake's lives. Mark and Jake find a rhyme which is a key to the past to live a life in an ancestor's body. They have exciting adventures together. We thought the book was the BEST! I'ts like the Magic Treehouse books but a little older. We strongly recommend this book.

Great Reference Book
This book is a great reference for the entire MS Office 2000 applications. I needed to learn Access in a hurry and found the section to be precise and informative and to be just what I needed. The tutorial was very good and after completing the exercise, one comes away with a confidence of knowing that they do, indeed, "know" how to set up and run a database.

The book covers Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, FrontPage, PowerPoint, and Outlook. I also needed some clarification in Excel and Word and also found those sections to be just as helpful and informative.

This is a great "quick" book and it does not cover everything. If someone is seeking more detailed information, then they really need to consult another book, which would provide more detailed information. But for the true basics, this book is great!

Excellent Resource
This book was very helpful in my introduction to Access, as well as in my review of other Microsoft programs. The tutorials are easy to follow, unlike those in other books I had tried. I recommend this book to anyone trying to learn or brush up on Microsoft programs.

Hand-On training for pepole in a hurry
I am very happy that I invested my money in this book because my students have been using Microsoft Office 2000 and have learned so much because it helps you through the whole learning process step...by...step. It is ideal for classroom instructor led training and for at home self-pace study. Plus the new low price is great.

Maldiciones sin quebrantar
Published in Paperback by Whitaker House (May, 1996)
Authors: Rebecca Brown and Daniel Yoder
Average review score:

Essential reading for the damned
Dr. Brown uses powerful and compelling logic and guides the reader step by step towards salvation. As a recovering Roman Catholic Satanist, I shudder to think what might have been my fate had I remained in that Tantric yoga class that I had enrolled in at the local Community College.

Dr. Brown gives clear and concise instructions for becoming an effective deliverance worker by using such common household products as oils, tounges, cameras and tape recorders. Chapters on mass deliverance and demon assessment measures will appeal to the advanced student. Her four step method for ridding your home of demons is must read material for the parents of any lust-filled, rock music addicted, fantasy role-play possesed teen.

The call is clear: Christians, prepare for war!

Choose to Learn from Others Experiences
Dr. Rebecca Brown not only alerts about what's going on in the spiritual world around but, she gives examples and supports her statements with The Scripture while she empowers the reader to have his/her own opinions and experiences.

Not One Shred of Decency
Published in Paperback by River City Books (15 January, 2000)
Author: Bob Brown
Average review score:

Exciting Historical Novel
The rich historical setting blended with the exciting drama of mutiny, incited by the son of the Secretary of War, made for a very satisfying read. The characters were vividly fleshed-out by the author. I appreciated the research that went into writing about this incident in our history. Excellent book.

Expertly detailed, historically accurate
In 1842, Midshipman 18-year-old Philip Spencer, the son of the President John Tyler's Secretary of War was hung for mutiny aboard the U.S.N. Somers. Not One Shred Of Decency is a masterfully written, expertly detailed, historically accurate, ardently recommended novel based on the circumstances and aftermath of this unusual event in American history. Bob Brown demonstrates a mastery of both his subject and his ability to write a gripping account that has the reader avidly engaged from first page to last.

Good book, great story
Bob Brown knows how to write believable dialogue, and he knows how to make history come to life. His story of the hanging of the son of Secretary of War, John Spencer, is fascinating and true to life. I recommend it highly.

Pierre Bourdieu
Published in Hardcover by Rowman & Littlefield Publishing (January, 2000)
Authors: Nicholas Brown and Imre Szeman
Average review score:

A must have.
This is not only the only collection that addresses this topic, it will most likely remain the best for quite some time.

Tackles the divide between social science and the humanities
If you want to witness firsthand the productive tension between the social sciences and the humanities -- or, differently put, between quantitative and interpretive approaches to cultural phenomena -- this is the place to look. Some of the essays are fascinating in themselves, but what emerges most clearly throughout the book is a disturbance of the disciplinary boundary between sociology and "cultural studies." This disturbance might raise hackles among those who want to protect sociological knowledge from appropriation by scholars in the humanities, or among those who, on thecontrary, wish to defend cultural objects from the "vulgar" intrusion of quantitative cultural critique. Both of these postures, however, would only be symptomatic of the institutional and affective investments at stake in the maintenance of that boundary. A valuable collection.

Excellent introduction to Bourdieu
This book is excellent for any lay reader who is interested in philosophy, critical theory, or cultural studies, and wants to see what Bourdieu is all about and why he's so important. It might be more useful to start with the second half first to get a feel for how Bourdieu's models are used, and then go back to the first half to read the more theoretical material. But for someone who has wanted to know what the fuss was about but wasn't sure it was quite worth slogging through _Outline_of_a Theory_of_Practice_ or whatever, this is a great place to start.

Prayer of the Warrior
Published in Paperback by Faith Pub Co (July, 1997)
Author: Michael H. Brown
Average review score:

Soul Food
This wonderful book will appeal to those Christians who understand that the mystical is real and who do not subscribe to a cynical interpretation of Scripture. Michael Brown's journey from a secular life as a journalist to a devotional life centered on the Blessed Virgin Mother will console those who struggle to sustain their faith in the post-Christian paganism of the contemporary world. The central theme of the book is spiritual warfare against the demonic realities which surround us and which have penetrated almost every aspect of popular culture. The book maintains a sober balance between the recognition that evil is an ontological, personal reality and the Catholic hopefulness that it cannot overcome us. In simple, lucid prose Mr. Brown describes the life of the spiritual warrior whose main weapons are the rosary, Mass and prayer. He discusses the significance of the many Marian apparitions in the last 150 years and recounts his own experiences at Medjugorge. Michael Brown reminds us that penance, humility and quiet devotion are essential to our own salvation and for the amelioration of the coming chastisements.

Gripping story of personal spiritual warfare
This is a story of the author's personal spiritual journey home to Christianity. It begins with him being of the world and all about his career and worldly goals. Then after some Angelic intervention, Mr. Brown begins his long journey. That changes his whole outlook on life and the world around him. It is a riveting and emotional tale. Mr. Brown is an accomplished investigative journalist. His strong research style adds an air of credibility to a very personal story that leads deeply into spiritual warfare. He effectively sprinkles guidance and prayers along with the narrative of his journey. This is a powerful book. I could not put it down. I have bought copies for a number of family members and friends and all have found it gripping. Some even saw it as a personal awakening!

The Best book
i read this book at least 4 years ago, lent it out and never got it back. I am thrilled that i have found it again and can not wait to read it again. If ever in doubt please read this book. God bless! Mr. Brown if you can email me at moonshadowhollow@hotmail.com that would be great!

Ch 12 is worth the price alone!
I've only read Ch 12 - Designing Web Applications and Servlet Patterns, via PDF online at the authors site. It's worth the price alone - I went to my local bookstore to purchase it last night - but alast the isles are full of MS C# and .NET books.

However on to what I learned from Ch 12 - the patterns that are put into action are wonderful! I've used MVC in the past - but adding the 'Command & Controller' to MVC is a real boon! I've not been successful with pattern books in the past, because they typically do not provide code examples, which I find a great learning tool [ I'm a "visual" learner ]. This book includes great code examples, the graphics are very professional, and helpful also.

4 of 5 stars - I've not read the whole book - I've got to reserve total commitment til then.

MUST HAVE
This is a very good book.
It is a must have for any serious web-application devloper.
It explains well all the subjects you need to know about servlet programming.

Buying this book saves you lot of learning-by-step time.
I really suggest this title.
Finally one book that i'm glad to pay.

This is my forst wrox book but, if all worx books are like this one, for sure not the last.

Amazing Book!!
Hiya All,

I have this book for sometime now, and I think, you can't have a better book to learn Servlets 2.3 API. Specially, the Chap on MVC pattern was very good. I liked the way the book has been written. There are lots of practicle examples in the book. The Patterns have been explained in a very good manner. But my favourite is Chap 8. Its downright interesting that how you can combine a database with a JSP page to create a Web Apps. I had some problems in Running the code and had to take the help of Wrox People, But I managed it with there help. Overall, a dependable book.
